Anyone Can Whistle
It has been far too long since I posted. There were countless moments since the last post when I though about posting but just didn't find the time or the energy. After temping for a month I went to Virginia Beach to do a show with a theatre down there. Just a month, small show, relatively simple. I can't, yet, really put into words how much I enjoyed working there. The rehearsal process was hard, our MD walked out after a couple of days of rehearsal and it was Sondheim so that was particularly crippling. However I absolutely love the theatre staff. They were a great bunch. The thing that was so amazing was the number of coincidences. The director of the show and one of the actors worked at The Barter on a particularly infamous production (Coffee and Donuts anyone?), the Producer had worked at Barter for several years in the 80's, the Production Manager knows my college senior year suitemate, the Business Manager lives with a musician who I worked with at Barter and works with a professor I had in college, the new MD knows a director I worked with at Barter and one of the actors was in a show at the horrible Florida theatre while I was there. For the first few days I couldn't decide if the universe was pointing me away or toward the theatre. I finally settled on toward. I will go back to be the resident SM for their next season. I truly loved working there.
I hadn't realized how many scars I had developed from the Florida experiment. I had many. Doing the show at the Beach really helped me heal these. It was a great experience and I can't wait to get back. Til then I may have a job in DC for, at least the beginning of summer.
On a completely unrelated note here's some Alanis:
